Samsung PDA phone follow up

Well it’s been 72 hours since I started using a PDA phone to do work when I’m away from the office and I’m still not that impressed.

The pros:

1. extremely small/mobile
2. higher-speed (800 kbps) data transfer just around the bend
3. runs Windows
4. can be used as a phone
5. allows me to do about 70% of necessary duties while away

The cons:

1. expensive: over $600 for the phone plus $80 monthly for the service.
2. very hard to make any larger entries (anything over 5-10 words).
3. running on a LAN is very buggy. It freezes up about twice per sitting.
4. can’t use Internet and phone at the same time — huge let down.
5. battery only lasts about 2 hours when using the Internet. Although an additional battery is included, it has to be recharged on the phone — defeating the purpose of a backup battery.
6. pocket version of IE doesn’t allow for multiple windows, viewing of source code, or form-fill feature. I honestly can’t work like this.
7. thus far it has taken me 40 minutes to connect, log into Typepad, and type this post. In this time I could’ve driven home, blogged, and returned.

I’ll give it another day or two and post again once I’ve made a decision about whether to keep this phone.

By for now.

Deer hunting on city streets

I’ve seen many pictures of cars with damage as a result of hitting a deer, and I’ve always hoped that I wouldn’t have to share that experience with anyone.

Too late. My 7-year old and I have deer accident pictures to share.

Blogging from Samsung phone

Blogging is so much cooler when you’re not stuck to your computer. However, the tiny keypad and small screen make for a frustrating first post. I’m used to sitting at a desktop with a nice large monitor and huge keyboard and mouse. But I’ll give it a go for now and write back often to tell you about it.
