Riding by yourself is usually not advised for safety reasons but that’s not usually my concern - I’m fairly safe on my own cause I’m naturally cautious.
I’ve never been on a solo ride because I like having company but today was different in that I needed some me-time and I also wanted to explore a little more and sometimes having a friend along slows you down.
So here’s what I learned:
Deer are just a stupid on the mountain as they are on the street - I almost hit 2 of them on the trail.
It’s too beautiful not to ride atv’s in the mountains - the trees are already changing colors hee in Utah.
The rivers aren’t as full as they were last year
There are so many trails in American Fork Canyon that you could spend 5 years exploring and never see it all
Finding things from phone books is so irritating and going to Google is rarely helpful unless the retail store you need is well ranked in the search engines.
If you’re looking for atv rentals you can try RentalToys.com in Lindon Utah.
I just got back from lunch with Evan at Rental Toys. He rents everything from ATVs to boats and jet skis. Check em out.
I’m thinking about renting jet skis later this summer to go out with our friends on their boat. This way we’ll have more than one thing to do and won’t have to wait for 6-8 people to wakeboard before getting a turn.
I’ve noticed over the last couple of days that searches for everything to do with riding ATVs has dramatically increased. This is expected since our weather here in Utah has finally made a change for the warmer but I started to realize that my blog category on Utah ATV Trails is suffering. I need to bring more information to this category for those of you who are hitting my site from the search engines.
So here’s what I’m working on bringing during the next several weeks:
Utah State Resources for ATVs
ATV Stores in Utah
ATV Pictures
ATV Videos
Kids Safety
Of course I’m planning to go riding this week(end) and I’ll be shooting pictures and videos to bring you as well.
When you enter at Tibble Fork take the East trail (not the trail at the top of the pavement that leads to Silverlake Flat).
Once on the trail heading east you’ll come to a fork at about 10-15 minutes in…stay left (right takes you to Cascade Springs and Heber).
At about this point you’re going to start seeing signs posted along the left side about the Mining Reclamation Project.
Stay on the main trail all the way up. Once you reach Snowbird you’ll see a No Trespassing sign. You’ll be starring at the backside of a mountian but you can see the lifts and there is a beautiful stream running next to the trail.
Keep in mind that the trail gets very rough after the fork in the road. Kids should not ride much past here. My friend and I had to take it slow a couple times as we rode through the empty and very rocky riverbed.
Also be very careful not to puncture your tire on the rocks like we did. We didn’t notice until is was too late and we had to ride it all the way out with a flat because we didn’t have a tire repair kit.
I’m hoping to get on the mountain next week so I’ll take some pics if I can get away from the office.
This morning the family went to Cascade Springs in American Fork Canyon for a little ATV ride. We haven’t been able to ride for three (3) weeks because our trailer needed a new wheel and the season is getting shorter each day.
As we entered into American Fork Canyon this morning the sun was coming up and the trees were so beautiful of every color. It was breathtaking when the sunlight hit the colorful trees and photographers were everywhere.
This morning we (John Jonas and myself) woke up early and headed for the mountains. It’s a short 20 drive from the house, but we started out at 8:00 am at about 55 degrees F. Within 10 minutes on the ATV’s we started to realize how cold it really was. Probably not much above freezing in the higher elevations and we had long sleeves/pants but no additional jackets for warmth.
It was a beautiful morning with a few of the trees already changing colors and the sun coming up over the many mountain peaks. I was surprised to see that the trees were already changing since this is only September 2, but at least I know to be back in a couple of weeks before too much more has changed.
I’m still working very hard to find new trails to bring to you, but sometimes it’s easier to go back to somewhere familiar. If you have any trails you’d like me to try and/or blog about, just contact me through my about page and I’ll get right on it.
Most ATV trails at Yuba Lake are closed, but someone gave me details of how to find a private property ATV trail. Just go to Yuba Lake (20 miles south of Nephi, UT and pass the North Shore entrance by about 2-3 miles, cross the dam, and hang the first left dirt road. Follow it (staying left) about 1-2 miles and you’ll find a place to unload your 4-wheelers. You can then ride for several miles on very easy roads and see tons of open space overlooking the lake.
It was beautiful but I’m not sure I’ll make a special trip to go again. We happened to be meeting friends for boating. Otherwise we probably would’ve never discovered this ride.
