Mobile Websites Seriously Lacking

I’ve been moblogging for a few weeks now but I’ve been online for years and developed hundreds of websites without a care (or the knowledge) of how to make a better mobile website.
It’s interesting because if more geeks and developers were mobile than mobile websites would get better instantly. We can’t stand it when something we create doesn’t work as intended and when it comes to mobile it rarely does.
If e-commerce companies would buy their dev team mobile phones with full Internet access their ROI would be sharp. For example: I tried to book a Las Vegas hotel room from my phone last week and had to connect to my laptop instead. Not everyone has a laptop and those that do don’t always have it with them, thus the reason we have phones with Internet access - it’s more convenient.
If I could’ve booked my room from my phone, it would have saved 15 minutes and I’d be telling everyone which travel site was best for booking hotel rooms from your mobile.
Ultimately we have a better chance of creating mobile websites with CSS but we need to be aware and be willing to take the time to build a mobile interface. This is my greatest barrier - taking the time - but my audiences are rarely (less than 1 percent) mobile making the ROI very poor.
